Description : This book is the result of an important photographic mission organised by the DATAR, sending photographers on assignments all over France, inspired by the "Mission héliographique" of the XIXth Century, or the work done for the "Farm Security Administration" by Walker Evans and the others. On this mission there were about 30 photographers, working on and off for years, of which Holger Trülsch, Gilbert Fastenaekens, Werner Hannapel, Gabriele Basilico, Hervé Rabot, Tom Drahos, Robert Doisneau, Joseph Koudelka, Lewis Baltz among others. The book has 684 pages, very heavy, with texts by François Hers, Bernard Latarjet, Augustin Berque, Jean-Paul de Gaudemar. Portfolios of each photographer, 20 or 30 photographs reproduced each, biographies and texts by the photographers. An important book of the 80s in France, on the state of the country and on photography.
